Scope of Work
This project was completed in collaboration with Premier Builders as a design build project. Drake Cement Mechanical Shop consisted of a new prefabricated metal building. GRES (formerly HEA) was responsible for the design of the foundations and miscellaneous steel stairs, walkways, crane support and large building doors. The metal building foundation has a two-story portion with a partial basement where GRES was also responsible for design of the concrete over steel deck floor and the stairs for accessing that floor. A unique feature of the project was the addition of a bridge walkway between the new mechanical shop and the adjacent building. Structural steel design was provided for two twenty-foot-high doors that open and close similar to barn doors. Another unusual design is the large horizontal openings above each barn door. GRES designed a steel horizontal pivot door for a crane system to move items through the building, from one exterior side to the other.
