Scope of Work

Australian Nickel Investments Pty Ltd (ANI) is a member of Western Areas Ltd, which is a subsidiary of IGO Limited (IGO). In October 2021, GR Engineering was engaged by ANI to upgrade the existing nickel concentrator facility at their Cosmos operations which are located 30 km north of Leinster. 

The initial scope included refurbishment of the existing plant together with the installation of new equipment to increase the plant throughput to a maximum 900 ktpa noting the existing comminution circuit was the limiting factor with an operating range of 750 ktpa to 900 ktpa. 

In October 2022, IGO and GR Engineering entered into a new Agreement to increase the capacity of the plant from 900 ktpa to 1.1 Mtpa. The new circuit now includes new primary, secondary and tertiary crushing, screening, primary mill (free issue); refurbished secondary and regrind mills; new and refurbished roughers, cleaners and cleaner scavengers flotation; refurbished concentrate thickener; new tailings thickener; new concentrate filter; upgraded air services, new water services and finally new reagent plant. 

Initially GR Engineering were contracted to undertake a $48 million (EPC) but the amended contract concluded in October 2022 IGO varied the scope to further increase the throughput to 1.1 Mtpa increased the Contract value to $76 million. With further variations agreed the total value of the Project was finalised at $78 million. Commissioning commenced in October 2023 and practical completion scheduled for December 2023.
